Coco Jones' Clever and Community-Based Promo

In addition to broadcast interviews, Grammy, BET, and Soul Train awardee and actress Coco Jones has included Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) in her promo tour as a way to connect directly with her core audience. The "Here We Go (Uh Oh)" songstress has visited the likes of Thurgood Marshall College Fund's Leadership Institute (which supports students in HBCU's) and Texas Southern University (TSU).

Jones, who started her career as a child, imparted insights to students on how to make a mark in one's chosen field, overcome adversity, and more.

"I think it's just important to connect with my culture," she told TSU. "I make music for Black people. I'm a Black woman and I want to be able to speak properly for us and represent us properly...being here and feeling vibes and seeing support continues to inspire me to create more and work harder for my people."

At suchabop!, we love smart and creative ideas in terms of decisions made in an artist's career and this is no exception. While interviews and performances are nice and necessary, do not underestimate the power of being among the people. It is just as effective, in some ways, more.

Last month, the singer-songwriter participated in the 2nd annual Broadway Sweep in Brooklyn, New York to help, well, clean the streets. This also aligned with her song "Sweep It Up" (a whole bop!)

Jones will release her new single "Most Beautiful Design" with Future and London on da Track on Friday, October 18, 2024.
